The shadowmancy professor sat on the desk and watched the students as they entered, his expression characteristically blank. They all crept in and made it to their desks, watching their professor back with trepidation. He steepled his fingers and lowered his face to the tips, seemingly lost in thought before he snapped back to attention, irritation flickering in his expression. "So we've come upon the last month of our quarter, in which you will prove to me whether you're entirely useless or not. Some of you"--his gaze traveled over those for which he spoke--"have already managed to prove such. But many of you still leave much to be desired."
SHD 101: Shadowmancy in Nature

The professor's eyes had lidded, blocking out the extreme yellow glow that came from them. After a half moment of thought, he opened them again and extended one hand, forming black shadow blobs in his palm. The shadow blobs bounced and twirled in the air, though a moment shot toward the students in the SHD 101 class, one coming to a stop in front of each student. The blobs, after a moment of trembling, each grew white eyes that stared up at the students with wonder and amazement.
"This creature is a tear of darkness," MDrake said in his cold lilt. "They were said to be shed by the god of shadow after he laid down and disbanded his intelligence, becoming the shadow realm you all will soon learn and fear. Of course, such mythologies are ignorant ways to explain the universe we exist in. Regardless, these creatures will start to take the form of your "animal guide," so to speak. The creature that represents you, they will become: the strong and courageous may become a lion. Though it is all open to interpretation - perhaps a lion is more indicative of unfairness and laziness. It is your job to wrench truth from this."
"Keep them with you the entire month, and they will gradually shift their form. They represent our last term of study -- they are semi-intelligent creatures, a species of shadow being as capable of sentience as any other."

You will make shadow tendrils properly with thorns, and then you will battle with one of your fellow classmates, of your choice."

Interestingly enough, you'll find that changing another object into shadow is much easier than changing yourself. Due to this, I shall pair you up and you will work together in changing each other and changing yourselves. Make no mistake, this will be painful, and you'll probably have some missing skin as a result, but there is no gain without pain. You will succeed. Don't disappoint me."

The professor looked over the student's damaged form with an impressed nod. Pain obviously got his approval. "Last, you shall be studying the shadow mines that make up the flooring of the shadow realm. They are spots of black that leak white smoke. If you see one, moments later, there will be an explosion. I want you to take something and place it upon a shadow mine, then observe its state after the mine explodes."

However, not all people are so easily convinced, and tweaking their senses to allow for taste, touch, smell, and sound will provide the full hallucinogenic experience."
"As such, I want you to find a victim, one who has someone close to them... a loved one, at best. Make them hallucinate that their loved one has been hanged in their room. Indulge the other senses - the scent of death, the sound of flies buzzing around the body. It'll be quite entertaining, I assure you."

Drinking blood had been a fairly menial task, and MDrake certainly didn't want himself losing his reputation of having dangerous and aggressive assignments. The question was, what could he assign that fit those traits and allowed the student to advance their knowledge in shadow bandages, though? "Now that you have a knowledge on how to absorb blood, we shall be working on creating the bandages themselves. You should be well enough versed in using shadow tendrils--all you have to do is learn to manipulate their shape so that they are flat, barely thin, just like actual bandages but made of shadow. You shall find yourself an unwilling victim and mummify them as you practice--might I suggest you pick someone claustrophobic? That should be fun."
