He put his hand over his heart with a little sigh of happiness. February was making him feel so romantic. The heel of his palm rubbed against his chest for a moment before he smiled and looked over the students who'd entered. "All right! So it looks like about half of you are on the right track to getting yourself into the highest levels of elementalism. Sort of, I mean, you look like you have the determination to do it!"

For this next assignment, I would like to select an opposite to the element that you chose for your first. One of the principles of elementalism is making sure that you don't depend too heavily on one element, and instead explore your weaknesses and strengthen them."
Glitch really didn't have room to talk, because he hadn't taken any earthmancy, and that was the opposite of energymancy. But he'd make sure his students didn't make that mistake. "Of course, if you didn't do the previous assignment, this would be quite impossible to you, hmm? So instead, if you're just starting now, I want you to pick the element that would be hardest for you. That should be about the same thing, hmm?"
"When you target your weaknesses so early on, you'll find that they don't stay weaknesses for long. You may even find that you become quite strong in that area - elements can surprise you!"

But of course, you know that using premade spells doesn't really suit a battlefield, or real life for that matter. What you really need to be able to do is communicate with the element itself, get it to recognize you and trust your actions, as well as trust it because elements are quite dangerous and could hurt you."
He hummed in thought as he sat down on his desk. The chair wasn't very useful to him. "So for this next assignment, I'd like you to try to establish a connection with wind and have a conversation with it. This will require a significant amount of meditation, so go somewhere where you won't be bothered. Going to the desert or the mountains is aways an excellent idea, because there won't be anyone around, and there's plenty of wind coming from that area."
"Go there, relax and close your eyes, and reach out to the element. Tell me, when you come back, what the conversation was about... and what wind said. It might require you to offer something up in exchange for controlling it or drawing on its power, so be prepared to do so."
